Morning Glory RCC: Scott Newman vs. Scott Keith

OK, let me tell you now that I am pissed off. Pissed off with the 'Smarks' and especially with their leader Scott Keith. I used to respect Keith, but as I read more and more of his stuff, more and more of my respect slips away. Allow me to explain.

"With the lights out, it's less dangerous, here we are now, entertain us!"
Nirvana, Smells Like Teen Spirit

What is the purpose of wrestling? Why do we watch it? The answer is simple. ENTERTAINMENT. We want to be ENTERTAINED. Most of the time, we, the FANS, are entertained. However, it seems that the 'smarks' out there, namely Scott Keith, cannot be entertained by the WWF if their life depends on it. I'll admit now, a few months back, I was the type who 'analysed' every show, looking for reasons why the WWF were going wrong, saying "(insert wrestler/angle here) sucks". Now, since the beginning of the Invasion angle however, I have taken a new view. Now, I watch wrestling to be entertained. Things that months ago I thought would have sucked, like the ref's match at Invasion, I found myself enjoying for the entertainment value, much like the crowd at the actual event. It seems though, that however hard the WWF try, however many good matches they put on, nothing can impress Mr Keith. Every angle, every match, has something that Keith has a problem with. His problem is that he analyses the programmes too much. If he sat back and simply watched, without considering shit like 'workrate', 'psychology' and all his other crap, he might find himself strangely entertained.

Scott Keith is blatantly biased towards his Canadian Boyz Chris Benoit and Chris Jericho, and it seems that every time they do a job, he thinks that "their push is over". He even calls Jericho a "mid-carder" now, and that is just a load of crap. Do you think Jericho would have been put in Team WWF at Invasion if he wasn't viewed as a 'main eventer'? From my point of view, there is now a league of 'main eventers' such as Jericho, Benoit, Undertaker, and there are the true headliners, like Austin, HHH and The Rock. The reason Benoit and Jericho are not true headliners is that both men have one fatal flaw in their package, and the major headliners such as Austin and HHH don't have a major flaw, only small, insignificant ones. Jericho cannot be serious, meaning that he does not seem like a legitimate threat, and Benoit does not have enough charisma. Keith can't see this, he just sees them chopping away at someone and begs 'the glass ceiling holds them back! they deserve the main events!" Um Scott, no they don't when there are better all round wrestles like Austin and Angle in front of them.

Scott Keith is blatantly biased against anyone over 6'8". He cannot see that these guys can have as good a match as the smaller guys, and can't see that they put just as much effort in as the smaller guys. He said the other week, to quote one of his 'rants', "I fell dirty saying this, but Kane VS Albert was actually a decent match". Why does he feel dirty? Just because Kane and Albert are bigger, and cannot pull off crazy moves like moonsaults and the like, does not make them bad wrestlers. Kane-Albert was a decent match, but Keith feels shame in saying this because he doesn't like big men. He keeps saying that Vince McMahon likes the big men, but Rocky, Angle and Austin are only average size in the wrestling world. If Vince likes big men so much, why isn't the Big Show the world champ? Because he is a poor wrestler. If you look at the big men Vince has pushed recently (Taker, Kane, Albert, Test etc) they are all pretty decent wrestlers. Keith, you are the one with the bias, not Vince.

Scott Keith's match ratings MAKE ME SICK. They have no consistency, and are usually simply based on whoever is in the match. Anyone can see that a TLC match will probably reach *****, but it is other, harder to rate matches that he fucks up with. Take HHH-Undertaker from Wrestlemania. He gave that **3/4, which is simply a joke. This means that he gave Trish-Steph and Raven-Rhyno higher ratings, which is quite obviously wrong. Then take this years King Of The Ring main event, the triple threat between Austin, Benoit and Jericho. This featured a poor finish, a run-in that didn't affect the outcome of the match, and a number of blown spots from Jericho. Keith gives it ****. There is no way that this match was better than HHH-Undertaker, but he gives it a much better rating. Why? Because one involves Undertaker, who he can't stand, and one involves his BOYZ, Benoit and Jericho. Don't deny it, you all know it's true.

Scott Keith changes his opinions faster than any other internet writer, and yet he never, EVER admits that he is wrong. Last year, he referred to Triple H as 'God' on a number of occasions, namely the classic Last Man Standing match with Chris Jericho. Now, this year, when he blames HHH for the 'Glass Ceiling' bullshit that is supposedly 'holding back' guys like Jericho, although you can tell he really doesn't like HHH any more, he never once says 'I don't like HHH' or something like that. Why? Because he is making sure that no smartarse can e-mail him and say 'how can you hate a guy who you used to call God?'. He says that after the KOTR, the "Canadian push is dead". When Benoit comes back, and Austin is near the end of his career, Rocky has defected to Hollywood and Taker is near the end too, and Vince gives Benoit the world title because while he's been out he's worked on his charisma, will Keith stand up and say "OK, I was wrong"? No way. He'll probably say something like "I told you they should have pushed Benoit!". Why? Because he is a gutless egomaniac who only believes in his opinions. When I wrote my admittedly dodgy tryout column for Rantasia, Andrew Nelson described my writing as 'horrible'. After I had written another one, which was a major improvement, he e-mailed me and apologized for his judgment. I have more respect for Nelson than anyone else on the 'net, because he stood up and admitted that he was wrong. Don't you wish that Keith could admit this once in a while?

I know that Keith will probably not be reading this, but if someone could get him to, I'd really appreciate it. If you are reading it Keith, I don't expect feedback, I know you don't have the balls to do it. OK, we are nearing the end now, and let me tell you that I am not trying to make a name for myself by attacking a known writer. I am simply stating my opinions. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, it's just that Scott Keith's opinions suck.
